Julie Schmitz Jensen
President & CEO, Visit Rapid City

Julie Schmitz Jensen, originally from Bonesteel, SD, a whopping metropolis of 325 people in southcentral South Dakota, worked for four years as Executive Assistant to Governor Richard F. Kneip, the last Democrat to be elected to the Governor’s Office. After a brief stint working for Hoadley Dean and the Western South Dakota Development Corporation, Julie became the Assistant Director of the Sioux Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau. Four years later, Rapid City came calling, and Julie became the Executive Director of the Rapid City Convention & Visitors Bureau. Fourteen years and three children later, Julie retired to raise her family in 1996. In addition to bringing 24 foster babies into her home, Julie volunteered in virtually every parent organization in Rapid City. With her three children now adults, in July of 2014, Jensen was hired to once again lead the Rapid City CVB.
In 2017, the Rapid City CVB was rebranded as Visit Rapid City, an independent, non-profit corporation and Jensen is the President/CEO.  With a $2.5 million budget, Rapid City markets itself as the hub of 6 National Parks, including the iconic Mt. Rushmore National Memorial and the Badlands National Park.
